Raccoon Valley Pony Club has been serving the central Iowa area since 1957. Our club is active in a number of the activities that Pony Club offers, including Dressage, Eventing, and Show Jumping. We try to hold one mounted and one unmounted meeting every month, usually at a local barn. Mounted meetings can be taught by Upper Level Members, under supervision, or we will bring in an outside instructor. During unmounted meetings members learn about feeding, shoeing, veterinary care, and other areas of horse management from a professional or an experienced club member. Teaching and mentoring are an important part of Pony Club.
Members compete annually at our Regional Quiz and Mega Rallies, and several of our members have competed in the National Pony Club Championships, as well as USEF and USDF competitions. Raccoon Valley Pony Club has a total of 8 A graduates, 2 HA graduates, and 9 B graduates, starting in 1962.
RVPC is committed to safety. It is a requirement that any member at a mounted meeting wears an ASTM-SEI approved helmet, and riding shoes or boots. English tack is required, it need not be new, but should be well cared for and meet all the safety standards that Pony Club sets.
We are a small club that is very much family oriented. We could not survive without our parents and other volunteers supporting us. They trailer horses, help run competitions, build jumps, chaperone at rallies etc. Pony Club is an opportunity to find friendship, education, horses and memories that you will keep for a lifetime.
